LEVEL Gains AOC, Set for 2025 Code Transition

LEVEL, the Barcelona-based low-cost airline, has officially obtained its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) and Operating Licence (OL) in Spain, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward independent operations. The IAG (International Airlines Group) subsidiary, which has previously operated under the Iberia brand, will transition to its own operations under the ‘LL’ code beginning in 2025.

This newly granted certification allows LEVEL to operate with greater autonomy, enabling it to expand its fleet and network from its base at Barcelona El Prat Airport. The airline anticipates that the new operating flexibility will play a key role in future growth and service expansion. However, while the transition is in progress, LEVEL will continue to operate under Iberia’s ‘IB’ code until the official switch to ‘LL’ in 2025.

The transition to independent operations has required LEVEL to significantly expand its workforce. The airline has doubled its staff, with a particular focus on building its newly created operations department. This growth will ensure the airline is well-prepared to handle its expanding network and fleet.

LEVEL’s fleet currently consists of six Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with plans to add a seventh in the coming weeks. An eighth aircraft is expected to join the fleet in 2026. Despite the fleet expansion, LEVEL has not yet announced any new routes. The airline will continue to serve its established destinations, which include major cities such as Boston, Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini, Miami, New York JFK, Santiago de Chile, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The latter two destinations are operated seasonally.

The certification marks a pivotal moment in LEVEL’s journey, providing the airline with the operational flexibility it needs to further expand its route network and compete in the dynamic European and international aviation markets. Although the carrier remains focused on its existing network for now, the AOC and OL are expected to be key drivers in its future growth plans.

As LEVEL prepares for its official rebranding in 2025, the airline’s focus will remain on consolidating its presence in existing markets while exploring new opportunities for expansion. With the newfound autonomy granted by its AOC and OL, LEVEL is positioned to become a more prominent player in the competitive low-cost airline sector, particularly in Europe and the Americas.
