Lindblad and National Geographic Expand Youth Travel Program

National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has announced the expansion and rebranding of its acclaimed youth program, previously known as National Geographic Global Explorers. The initiative will now be called National Geographic Explorers-in-Training.
Launched in 2017, the program has introduced thousands of young travelers to exploration, conservation, and storytelling while sailing on National Geographic-Lindblad voyages. Designed for multigenerational families, the program provides an immersive, educational experience tailored to younger guests.
“We see more and more multigenerational families traveling with us every year, and our expanded National Geographic Explorers-in-Training program is designed to be an engaging educational experience,” said Natalya Leahy, chief executive officer of Lindblad Expeditions. “It is not your standard kids’ club—it’s a highly acclaimed, age-appropriate expedition program for young travelers, and this new name better reflects its essence and our mission.”
The program is led by certified field educators with support from National Geographic experts in areas such as photography, wildlife, and marine science. Activities include hands-on experiments, storytelling challenges, games, and exploration-based learning. Young participants may also learn to pilot a Zodiac boat, collect plankton samples, and record wildlife sightings in a personalized field notebook. At the conclusion of each voyage, travelers receive a commemorative patch and certificate recognizing their participation.
National Geographic Explorers-in-Training will be featured on select family-friendly itineraries, including expeditions to Alaska, Antarctica, Baja California, Iceland, and the Galápagos, offering young explorers opportunities to connect with nature in some of the world’s most remarkable destinations.
