Lindblad Expeditions is expanding its footprint in the Amazon River by chartering the 42-guest Delfin III ship, offering travelers a new way to explore the Upper Amazon and Peru. The charter of Delfin III also marks the launch of two new Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic cruises in the region, enhancing the company’s presence in one of the world’s most fascinating ecosystems.

The Delfin III, a luxurious vessel featuring 21 spacious suites, an observation deck, an open-air whirlpool hot tub, a bar, and a spa and gym, will host guests in comfort as they journey through the Amazon. Built locally with hand-crafted furniture, art, and textiles sourced from nearby communities, the ship offers an authentic connection to the region’s rich culture. It is the sister ship to the Delfin II, which Lindblad Expeditions has been chartering since 2010.

With the addition of Delfin III, Lindblad more than doubles its capacity in the Amazon, catering to the increasing demand for immersive, small-ship adventures in the region. Guests aboard the ship will enjoy not only the luxury of the vessel but also the opportunity to explore the Amazon in an intimate setting, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty and biodiversity of the rainforest.

The new itineraries debuting in January 2026 include “Upper Amazon: A River Expedition,” a six-day journey through the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, and “Wild Peru Escape: Amazon and Machu Picchu,” a 10-day voyage that combines an Amazon River expedition with visits to iconic Peruvian landmarks such as Lima, Cusco, and Machu Picchu. These carefully curated itineraries are designed to offer a mix of adventure, culture, and luxury, appealing to travelers looking for unique and transformative travel experiences.

Trey Byus, Chief Expedition Officer for Lindblad Expeditions, emphasized the allure of the Peruvian Amazon for explorers and travelers. “The untouched wilds of the Peruvian Amazon have long fascinated intrepid explorers and modern travelers alike, making our one-of-a-kind small-ship expeditions along the Upper Amazon particularly alluring to our guests,” Byus said. “Delfin III is a welcome addition to our chartered fleet. … This ship will allow guests to explore one of the world’s most extreme places in extreme comfort.”

The two new cruises offer guests a variety of activities, including guided wildlife expeditions, cultural encounters with local communities, and opportunities to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Amazon and the history of Peru. Whether traveling on the shorter Amazon-only itinerary or combining the trip with visits to Machu Picchu, guests will experience the Amazon’s extraordinary ecosystem while enjoying the amenities of a luxury vessel.

With the addition of Delfin III and the launch of these new itineraries, Lindblad Expeditions continues to solidify its position as a leader in small-ship expedition travel. By offering more capacity and enhanced experiences in the Amazon, Lindblad provides travelers with unparalleled access to one of the world’s most remote and biodiverse regions.

These new offerings cater to those seeking adventure, comfort, and a deeper understanding of the natural world, making the Amazon a must-visit destination for explorers and nature lovers alike.
