Avion Express has taken a significant step into South America by signing a wet-lease agreement with Argentina-based Flybondi for two Airbus A320 aircraft. This marks the Lithuanian airline’s first foray into the Argentine market.

Under the agreement, Avion Express will station two Airbus A320s in Buenos Aires, with operations scheduled from late November 2024 to the end of March 2025. The lease agreement, known as ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance), enables Flybondi to expand its operational capacity during the busy summer season in the Southern Hemisphere.

“We are proud to be the first Airbus A320 family ACMI operator in Argentina, supporting Flybondi’s growth during this crucial period,” said Darius Kajokas, CEO of Avion Express. He emphasized that this partnership showcases the potential of ACMI services in the region and aligns with Flybondi’s ambitious plans.

This deal also introduces Airbus A320s to Flybondi’s fleet for the first time, as the carrier currently operates Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft exclusively. According to Flybondi CEO Mauricio Sana, the expanded fleet will boost domestic and regional flights, including increased frequencies on Brazilian routes and potential new destinations.

Avion Express highlighted the seasonal adaptability of ACMI leasing, allowing it to balance demand between Europe and South America. The airline is also pursuing a new air operator certificate (AOC) in Brazil to address the rising demand for ACMI services across Latin America.

This expansion reflects a growing recognition of ACMI’s benefits in South America, traditionally dominated by in-house fleets. As Flybondi strengthens its position as Argentina’s largest private airline, this partnership with Avion Express aims to promote tourism, job creation, and regional connectivity.
