London Court Grounds Lumiwings’ Last Jet Over Lease Dispute

Lumiwings has been left without any active aircraft after a London court ordered the Greek-Italian carrier to return its only Embraer E195 to lessor Azorra. The ruling followed a remote hearing on October 10, where the London Circuit Commercial Court ruled in favor of Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin), acting as trustee for Azorra, in case LM-2025-000293.

Azorra confirmed it sought legal intervention after Lumiwings continued operating the aircraft following lease termination. “We obtained the English court’s assistance to ground the aircraft previously on lease to Lumiwings. While litigation is never our preferred option, we must act to protect our interests and uphold contractual integrity,” a company spokeswoman said.

ADS-B data shows the E195, registered SX-LWD, has been grounded at Foggia Gino Lisa Airport since September 26. The jet previously operated routes to Milan Linate and Turin Caselle under Italy’s regional public service obligation (PSO) program, known locally as “territorial continuity.”

The decision also ends weeks of uncertainty surrounding Foggia Airport, where local authorities awaited clarity on future scheduled services. With this ruling, Lumiwings no longer has any operational aircraft. Its only other plane, a Boeing 737-700 leased from Deucalion Aviation, has been stored in Castellón, Spain, since October 2024.

Italian outlet FoggiaToday reported that AeroItalia plans to take over Foggia’s incentive program and maintain regional connectivity, filling the service gap left by Lumiwings’ exit.
