Los Cabos Boosts Europe Link After Frankfurt Flight

The Los Cabos Tourism Board, known as FITURCA, leads efforts to promote the destination’s unique combination of mountains, desert and marine ecosystems both nationally and internationally. In 2024, Los Cabos welcomed more than 3.76 million air passengers, setting a new record for the resort region. As demand grows, FITURCA continues to spotlight the area’s natural beauty, luxury resorts and adventure offerings to travelers around the globe.

International visitors accounted for 63.8 percent of total arrivals last year, driven by strong growth from key North American markets. Routes from Dallas, Denver, Phoenix and San Francisco all saw double‑digit increases, while Vancouver’s connection helped fuel Canadian interest. These source city gains underscore Los Cabos’s appeal as a versatile getaway for guests seeking sun, sea and sophisticated amenities just a short flight from major hubs.

FITURCA further strengthened its European presence in November 2024 when Condor launched the first nonstop service from Frankfurt Airport to Los Cabos International Airport. As the only direct link between Europe and Los Cabos, the Frankfurt‑Los Cabos corridor has become a vital artery for German travelers and beyond. The once‑weekly flight quickly demonstrated its value by offering convenient access to the Baja Peninsula for leisure and business passengers.

Rodrigo Esponda, CEO of FITURCA, reports that the Frankfurt route has generated interest not only in Germany but also in Italy, France, Spain and the United Kingdom. “Our new nonstop service has awakened curiosity across Europe and shown tour operators that Los Cabos can compete with more established Caribbean destinations,” he said. To capitalize on this momentum, the tourism board has launched targeted marketing and activation campaigns designed to convert awareness into arrivals.

These campaigns include digital promotions, trade events and collaborative partnerships with European carriers and travel agencies. FITURCA’s goal is to build a compelling case for additional air services from key markets, diversifying connectivity beyond North America into Europe and South America. By showcasing seasonal travel trends, hotel capacity and high‑value guest profiles, the board aims to secure new routes and frequencies.

Speaking at Routes Americas 2025, Esponda emphasized the importance of industry gatherings for forging airline partnerships. “Routes has been critical for us to connect directly with network planners and present Los Cabos’s competitive advantages,” he said. The board’s presence at these conferences ensures that decision‑makers understand the region’s strong performance metrics and growth forecasts.

In its pursuit of expanded connectivity, FITURCA is actively targeting carriers based in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain and Panama. Each market presents unique opportunity: the UK’s high spend per trip, Switzerland’s affinity for adventure tourism, and Panama’s role as a regional hub. Engagement efforts include one‑on‑one meetings, joint promotional ventures and familiarization trips for airline executives and media.

FITURCA also leverages its Routes 360 online profile to maintain ongoing dialogue with potential partners. The digital platform showcases Los Cabos’s latest infrastructure developments—such as airport upgrades and new resort openings—alongside real‑time data on passenger flows and market demand. This proactive outreach keeps Los Cabos top of mind for airline route planners exploring new international services.

Looking ahead, Los Cabos Tourism Board plans to drive further growth by reinforcing its brand in long‑haul markets and securing year‑round connectivity. With record arrivals and growing European interest, the region is positioned to welcome even more visitors seeking diverse experiences. FITURCA’s coordinated marketing, targeted campaigns and industry engagement will continue to underpin its strategy to make Los Cabos one of the world’s most accessible and desirable coastal destinations.
