Hong Kong-based low-cost carrier HK Express announced the arrival of its first Airbus A321neo aircraft on March 29, 2023.

It marks the delivery of the first of 16 A321neo aircraft for HK Express, a member of the Cathay Pacific Group. Delivery of the remaining aircraft will be rolled out over the next two years.

The newly delivered aircraft features the airline’s latest livery, with vibrant shades of purple and white. The aircraft’s winglets and empennage sports an “e” shaped journey symbol, which, according to Airbus, evokes the start of a pleasant journey with HK Express.

In its announcement, HK Express said that the delivery of the new A321neo was timed strategically with the full operation of the Three Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) by end-2024, going hand in hand with increasing demand for leisure travel in the Asian region.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the state-of-the-art A321neo aircraft to our fleet at this critical time as demand for international travel remains robust,” HK Express CEO Mandy Ng said in the airline’s announcement.

“The upgrade marks another milestone in our history as we continue to expand our footprint in Asia, while remaining committed to modernising our operations for a better and more sustainable future. The delivery also demonstrates our confidence in the Asian market, with Hong Kong making a full comeback on the global stage,” Ng further said.

HK Express’ A321neo is powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines and can seat up to 236 passengers in Airbus’ Airspace cabin, which features unique lighting displays, more personal space and a sleek design to improve passenger experience.

“Airbus is proud to extend our relationship with the Cathay Pacific Group, and this new delivery represents a new milestone in our long relationship. The A321neo’s performance and efficiency will allow HK Express to expand its network, while reducing its carbon footprint,” Anand Stanley, president Airbus Asia-Pacific said in a statement.

HK Express is an all-Airbus operator, with its current fleet comprising 27 A320 Family aircraft, including 11 A321ceo, 10 A320neo, five A320ceo and its first A321neo.
