Lufthansa, Austrian Boost Long-Haul Flights Amid Demand

Lufthansa and Austrian, part of the Lufthansa Group, are adding additional long-haul flights at short notice following a sharp rise in demand, particularly on routes to Asia and Africa.

Announced on March 10, 2026, the capacity increase includes extra intercontinental services operated by Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines, as the airline group responds to strong booking momentum in key global markets.

Lufthansa plans to operate four additional round-trip flights between Munich and Singapore in the coming weeks. The carrier will also add two special round-trip flights from Frankfurt to Cape Town, tapping into demand for southern Africa. In addition, two extra services from Frankfurt to Riyadh are currently planned.

Austrian Airlines has already arranged ten special round-trip flights between Vienna and Bangkok, reinforcing its long-haul presence in Southeast Asia. The added capacity is aimed at meeting short-term demand spikes and maintaining schedule flexibility as booking patterns evolve.

All published additional flights are now available through Lufthansa Group’s standard sales channels, including airline websites, travel agencies and global distribution systems. The group said it continues to monitor market developments closely and will announce further special flights if demand remains elevated.

The move reflects broader trends in long-haul travel, with Asia and Africa seeing renewed passenger growth. By deploying additional intercontinental capacity at short notice, the Lufthansa Group aims to capture strong demand while optimizing aircraft utilization across its network.

Further updates on additional flights are expected as the group evaluates booking trends and operational capacity in the coming weeks.

All flights can now be booked at lufthansa.com, as well as with all tour operators and travel agencies.
