Lufthansa Creates New Unit to Oversee City and CityLine

Lufthansa Group has established a new subsidiary, Lufthansa Aviation, to serve as a joint management and coordination hub for Lufthansa CityLine and Lufthansa City Airlines. While both carriers will continue operating as separate entities for now, the group has signaled plans to eventually wind down Lufthansa CityLine and transfer its fleet to Lufthansa City Airlines as part of a long-term restructuring strategy.

The newly formed unit will oversee administrative functions, operational coordination, and maintenance planning to streamline processes across the two narrowbody and regional operators. Lufthansa says the consolidation of oversight will improve efficiency and support the group’s broader network and fleet modernisation goals.

Lufthansa Aviation is based at Munich Airport and led by Peter Albers, who also serves as managing director of Lufthansa City Airlines. The creation of the new unit marks a significant step in the carrier’s plan to simplify regional operations and strengthen its short-haul platform within the German and European markets.
