Lufthansa Group Plans Centralised Overhaul by 2026

Lufthansa Group has set January 1, 2026, as the target date to implement a centralised structure across its core airlines, aiming to improve efficiency, profitability, and market strength. The reorganisation will bring together core functions across Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines, consolidating decision-making and operations at a group-wide level.
Under the plan, network management for all short- and medium-haul flights will be managed centrally, expanding an approach already in place for long-haul operations. Commercial product management will also be streamlined under unified group functions to deliver consistent strategies and faster responses to market changes.
Decision-making will move to four new “group function boards” covering hubs, technology, human resources, and finance. Each board will be chaired by an executive board member and include airline representatives, with a dedicated financial controller ensuring oversight. Lufthansa’s Chief Technology Officer, Grazia Vittadini, will lead the consolidation of IT functions, while the group’s “Digital Hangar” and “Innovation & Tech Factory” will merge into one central unit to drive digitalisation and innovation.
Customer-facing areas such as inflight services, lounges, and flight operations will remain under the control of individual airlines. However, the centralised structure is designed to speed up decisions, improve coordination, and create stronger synergies across the group’s carriers.
The overhaul marks a significant step in Lufthansa Group’s ongoing transformation strategy, positioning the company to strengthen its competitive edge in Europe and beyond as it prepares for future growth and changing market conditions.
