Lufthansa Group to Add Starlink Wi-Fi Across 850 Aircraft From 2026

The Lufthansa Group is accelerating its push to enhance the premium passenger experience, announcing plans to equip its entire fleet of approximately 850 aircraft with high-speed broadband internet access starting in 2026. The upgrade will cover both existing aircraft and all future deliveries, marking one of the largest inflight connectivity rollouts ever undertaken by an airline group.

Lufthansa Group has selected Starlink as its exclusive partner for the program. Starlink’s satellite-based system is widely regarded as offering the fastest inflight internet connectivity currently available, enabling reliable, high-bandwidth access even on long-haul routes and over remote regions.

With the new connectivity platform, passengers can expect significantly higher speeds and lower latency than traditional inflight Wi-Fi systems. This will allow activities such as video streaming, cloud-based work, and other data-intensive applications to be used seamlessly during flight—bringing the onboard digital experience closer to what travelers expect on the ground.

The service will be offered free of charge to all Lufthansa Group status customers and Travel ID users, regardless of travel class. By extending complimentary high-speed internet across economy, premium economy, business, and first class, the group is positioning connectivity as a core element of its premium proposition rather than a paid add-on.

Once the rollout is complete, Lufthansa Group will become the largest airline group in Europe to operate a Starlink-equipped fleet. No other airline group globally will have more aircraft fitted with Starlink technology, underscoring the scale of the investment and its strategic importance to the group’s long-term customer experience strategy.

The connectivity upgrade forms part of Lufthansa Group’s broader investment cycle, which includes large-scale fleet renewal and enhancements across the entire travel chain—from ground services and lounges to cabins, catering, and digital platforms. The group has consistently emphasized premium differentiation as a key pillar of its commercial strategy, particularly as competition intensifies on both short- and long-haul routes.

“In our anniversary year, in which we are celebrating Lufthansa’s 100th birthday, we have decided to introduce a new high-speed internet solution from Starlink for all our airlines,” said Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group. “Connectivity on board plays an important role today, and with Starlink, we are not only investing in the best product on the market, but also in the satisfaction of our passengers.”

Installation of the Starlink system will begin in the second half of 2026, with a phased rollout across the group’s airlines and aircraft types. Lufthansa Group expects the full fleet to be equipped by 2029. Additional details on specific aircraft types, routes, and service features are expected to be announced later this year.

As passenger expectations continue to evolve, Lufthansa Group’s move signals a clear commitment to making fast, reliable inflight connectivity a standard feature—rather than a luxury—across one of the world’s largest and most diverse airline fleets.
