Lufthansa pilots agree to 'no strike' deal until June 2023

Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) pilots will not go on strike until June 30, 2023, pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced in a statement.

The pilot union said it agreed to pay increases of 490 euros for each Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) pilot during the period.

“This is to be seen as a positive signal towards the colleagues in the cockpit, the passengers, and Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA)’s future viability,” said Matthias Baier, spokesperson for VC.

Baier added: “The collective agreements are still open, but the points to be negotiated can now be discussed in a confidential setting.”

The news comes more than a week after Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) pilots called an all-day strike in order to push for a better pay offer from the German flag carrier. The strike, which took place on September 2, forced the cancellations of hundreds of flights and affected around 130,000 passengers.

“The good monetary result is pleasing, but we are also pleased that we were able to take another step towards a more sustainable partnership. We are currently on the right track with Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA),” Marcel Gröls, chairman of collective bargaining at VC.

Strikes and labor shortages have forced many airlines to cancel flights during summer season 2022, leaving passengers stranded at airports and facing long queues.
