Lufthansa Says It Is Back on Track Toward Profitability

Lufthansa chief executive Jens Ritter says the airline is firmly “on the path back to profitability” following the progress of its extensive restructuring program. Ritter noted that the carrier is meeting all targets set for 2025, reflecting improved operational stability and a stronger financial performance.

Germany’s flag carrier has cut flight cancellations by half this year and boosted on-time departures by around 10 percentage points, reaching a rate of 74%. These improvements come as the airline works to streamline operations, enhance reliability, and rebuild customer confidence after several years of disruption across the European aviation sector.

For the first nine months of 2025, Lufthansa posted an operating profit of EUR131 million (USD152 million). While the company typically faces weaker results in the fourth quarter due to seasonal patterns, Ritter said the positive trend underscores the effectiveness of the restructuring efforts and positions the airline for stronger growth in 2026.
