Lufthansa to Receive First Boeing 777-9 in 2026
Lufthansa will be the launch customer for the Boeing 777X, with its first delivery scheduled for 2026, according to Boeing’s latest investor call. The aircraft manufacturer confirmed that flight testing for the 777X recently resumed, and it remains on track for certification with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Boeing executives acknowledged the long delay in deliveries, which are now running over five years behind schedule. The company had to ground its 777-9 test fleet in 2024 due to structural issues, including thrust link failures. However, Boeing’s leadership reassured stakeholders that the issue is under control.
Lufthansa has placed an order for 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft and seven 777-8F freighters for Lufthansa Cargo. The 777X family includes the 777-8, 777-8F, and 777-9 variants, designed for improved efficiency and performance.
In total, Boeing has secured 540 orders for the 777X series from 12 airlines. Emirates leads with the largest order, expecting 35 Boeing 777-8s and 170 Boeing 777-9s.
Despite the setbacks, the 777X is poised to be a game-changer in the long-haul market, offering enhanced fuel efficiency, cutting-edge aerodynamics, and next-generation passenger comfort. Lufthansa’s upcoming deliveries reaffirm its commitment to fleet modernization, ensuring improved operations and sustainability.
With its advanced features, the Boeing 777X will play a key role in shaping the future of Lufthansa’s long-haul network, further strengthening its global footprint in premium air travel.
