Luxair has announced at the Paris Air Show 2023 its decision to choose the Boeing 737-7 as it continues to pursue its single-aisle growth strategy.

Luxair will be the European launch customer for the 737-7, with an agreement to purchase four of these aircraft. This selection comes after Luxair’s previous order for four 737-8 planes placed in March 2023. Including today’s announcement, Luxair’s firm orders for the 737 now total eight. Additionally, Luxair plans to initially lease two 737-8 aircraft before taking direct delivery of its first 737-8 in the summer of 2023.

Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair, expressed the airline’s commitment to its growth and sustainability goals, stating, “We continue to invest in Luxair’s growth, and this agreement for four Boeing 737-7s is an extra step towards securing a long-term future for our national airline. This aircraft type is a perfect fit for Luxair and will meet market requirements. With a seating capacity of 160 passengers, the 737-7 will offer flexibility across Luxair’s destination network while significantly reducing fuel consumption. This brings us closer to our commitment to sustainable flights and demonstrates our support for IATA’s promise of ‘Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050’.”

Boeing’s dedication to sustainability is evident in the advanced design of the 737-7/8 models. On average, each aircraft of this new generation will save up to eight million pounds of CO2 emissions annually compared to the airplanes it replaces. Furthermore, these aircraft are quieter, with a 50% smaller noise footprint than their predecessors.

Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed delight at Luxair’s decision, saying, “We are thrilled that Luxair has chosen to expand its 737-8 order by selecting the 737-7, making them the launch customer for this airplane type in Europe. The 737-7 is perfectly suited for Luxair’s network, seamlessly integrating into its existing fleet and adding capacity to regional routes. By selecting the 737-7, Luxair will operate a common fleet, allowing flexibility to adjust capacity based on seasonality and demand, ensuring maximum profitability throughout the year.”

Luxair currently operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, including eight Next-Generation 737s.
