Malaysia’s My Jet Xpress eyes 737NG, widebody freighters

My Jet Xpress Airlines (N7, Kuala Lumpur Int’l) will acquire two B737-800 freighters and even a widebody transport as it gears up for growth given its success in developing Macau Int’l into a transit hub as a partnership with Hong Kong-based Kerry Logistics Network (KLN).

KLN recruited the Malaysian cargo carrier to assist an e-commerce customer struggling at the height of the pandemic to obtain freight capacity from Macau into East Malaysia and Indonesia. KLN said it chose Macau for the site of the hub owing to its proximity to the customer’s distribution centre, its willingness to allow the transport of products with batteries, and the efficiency of its customs clearance process.

“My Jet Xpress successfully achieved 98% of on-time performance since we catered to the demand for both these markets [East Malaysia and Indonesia],” Mohamed Yunos Bin Mohamed Ishak, chairman of My Jet Xpress, said in a statement.

“The investment into the new aircraft, two B737-800Fs, is about MYR40 million ringgit (USD9.6 million) to complement our existing three B737-300(F)s and one B737-400(F). With the strong e-commerce market growing rapidly, we acknowledge the consumer demand for greater transparency, speed, and reliability. We hope to see My Jet Xpress emerge as one of the main players in the air cargo industry, expanding not only in Southeast Asia but also throughout Asia with a larger fleet comprising narrow and wide body aircraft.”

Given the success of the Macau hub, My Jet Xpress and KLN will expand their partnership with the launch of scheduled services from Kuala Lumpur Int’l and Shenzhen, China, to destinations within Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

According to MAVCOM’s route allocations, My Jet Xpress has rights to connect Kota Kinabalu, Macau, Kuala Lumpur Int’l, Tawau, Hanoi, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Kuching, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Miri, Singapore Changi, Bangalore Int’l, Hong Kong Int’l, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta, Chennai, Quanzhou, and Labuan.
