Malta’s SkyUp MT (U5) is expanding its fleet to meet growing demand for the Winter 2024 and Summer 2025 seasons. The carrier has secured a wet-lease agreement with Fly2Sky for two Airbus A321-200 aircraft, which will enhance its operations from key bases in Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh, and Zanzibar. These aircraft will also play a pivotal role in the airline’s upcoming European base launch in Summer 2025, reported ch-aviation.com.

The wet-lease deal, extending SkyUp MT’s existing three-year contract with Fly2Sky, will see the two A321s deployed from Winter 2024 through October 31, 2025. Both aircraft are currently stationed at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport and have recently been added to Fly2Sky’s fleet. Each aircraft is configured for 212 passengers in a single-class layout and boasts an average age of 21.7 years.

During the winter season, SkyUp MT plans to base the A321s at Sharm el Sheikh, complementing its existing fleet of aircraft. The airline’s long-term expansion plans include using these aircraft on routes from Zanzibar and a newly planned European base, which will open by Summer 2025. SkyUp MT’s decision to grow its operations is in line with the airline’s strategy to offer expanded European routes and more travel options to its customers.

In addition to the A321s, SkyUp MT will continue operating two A320-200s under its three-year contract with Fly2Sky. These A320s are currently flying from the airline’s Egyptian hubs in Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh, servicing destinations across Europe, including Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Gdansk, Riga, Warsaw, and Yerevan. These aircraft, each configured for 180 passengers, are expected to remain part of the carrier’s fleet for the next few years.

SkyUp MT’s existing fleet consists of three Boeing 737-800 aircraft, one of which is wet-leased to Arkia Israeli Airlines, and another to FlyOne. The airline also operates three additional wet-leased Boeing units, including one Boeing 737-800 from Mavi Gök Airlines, one 737-700, and one 737-800 from its sister carrier, SkyUp Airlines. These wet-leases support the airline’s expanding network and growing demand.

Fly2Sky, the operator of the wet-leased Airbus aircraft, operates a fleet of eight A320-200s and two A321-200s. In addition to the aircraft leased to SkyUp MT, Fly2Sky has agreements with several other carriers, including Arkia Israeli Airlines, United Nigeria Airlines, and World Atlantic Airlines.

SkyUp MT has confirmed that more details regarding its Summer 2025 European operations, including specific bases, destinations, and aircraft allocations, will be announced once the plans are finalized.
