A man has been sentenced for attempting to bribe an airport security guard and illegally boarding an American Airlines flight at Philadelphia International Airport. The incident took place just after midnight on June 26, 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Jonathan “Jon” Beaulieu approached a security guard near an exit lane, claiming he had left his phone inside the airport. When told police could not search for the phone, he ignored repeated warnings and tried to enter without permission. Beaulieu then placed a $50 bill on the guard’s desk, asking if it would grant him access. The guard refused and called police, but Beaulieu entered the terminal anyway.

Security footage later showed him boarding an American Airlines plane at Gate A-20. Police arrived after the aircraft had already pushed back, prompting the captain to return to the gate. All passengers were deboarded, and Beaulieu was taken into custody.

Due to the presence of an unscreened passenger, the flight was canceled for a thorough security inspection, costing American Airlines $59,143. Beaulieu has been ordered to repay the airline in restitution and was sentenced to one year of probation.
