Marriott Finalizes Acquisition of CitizenM Lifestyle Hotels

Marriott International has officially completed its acquisition of citizenM, expanding its global portfolio with a dynamic lifestyle brand known for tech-forward hospitality. The deal adds 37 hotels and 8,789 rooms across more than 20 cities in the US, Europe, and Asia Pacific. An additional two properties, representing over 300 rooms, are currently in development.

“As travelers continue to seek innovative lodging offerings that blend technology with genuine, people-first hospitality, the citizenM brand is the perfect addition to our portfolio,” said Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International.

Capuano added that Marriott has a strong track record in growing select-service lifestyle brands, citing the success of AC Hotels, Moxy, and Aloft. The company now aims to accelerate citizenM’s global reach by integrating it into Marriott’s systems and offering access to Marriott Bonvoy members.

The integration process is now underway. Until it is complete—expected later in 2025—citizenM hotels will remain bookable through their existing digital platforms. Current members of the citizenM subscription program will continue to receive benefits during the transition, with further updates expected as the integration progresses.

Once the brand is fully integrated, citizenM will become a participating member of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, providing expanded value and rewards for frequent travelers.

This acquisition supports Marriott’s strategy to grow its lifestyle segment and strengthen its position in key global markets with tech-savvy, design-driven accommodations aimed at modern travelers.
