Marriott to Launch First Autograph Safari Camp in Serengeti

Marriott International will debut its inaugural Autograph Collection safari camp, Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, in the third quarter of 2025. Nestled near the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park, the camp sits directly along the legendary Great Migration route, where millions of wildebeest, zebra and antelope traverse the plains between May and July. Throughout the rest of the year, guests can encounter resident lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and giraffes against a backdrop of endless savannah and acacia woodlands.
Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Marriott International, says Mapito Safari Camp represents a defining moment for the Autograph Collection brand. He explains that the property’s setting—where scale, natural beauty and cultural heritage converge—perfectly embodies the individuality and character for which Autograph Collection is renowned. Rishen Patel, the project’s developer, adds that the camp will deliver an intimate, immersive safari experience that honors both the region’s wildlife and the timeless craftsmanship of the brand.
Mapito Safari Camp will feature 16 luxuriously appointed tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa ideal for families or small groups. Each suite will boast an outdoor deck complete with a fire pit and a retractable roof to facilitate open-air stargazing—a regional first. Guests can unwind at the camp’s spa, maintain their fitness routines in a fully equipped gym, or take a refreshing dip in an elevated swimming pool overlooking the Serengeti horizon. Multiple dining venues will blend local flavors with international cuisine, anchored by “The Boma,” a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.
Environmental stewardship lies at the heart of Mapito’s design. Sustainable construction techniques, solar-powered energy systems and water conservation measures will minimize the camp’s ecological footprint. The resort’s operations will support local conservation initiatives and community development programs, ensuring that the camp not only sits within the ecosystem but also contributes to its preservation.
Immersive experiences will form the core of each guest’s stay. Guided daytime game drives in custom safari vehicles will track the movements of the Great Migration and resident wildlife herds. After dark, expert rangers will lead night safaris to observe nocturnal predators. Walking safaris will allow guests to connect on foot with the landscape, while hot air balloon flights at dawn promise bird’s-eye views of the vast Serengeti plains bathed in golden light. Bush dining beneath the stars and cultural visits to the nearby Ikoma tribe will round out the itinerary, offering insights into local traditions and stories.
Reservations for Mapito Safari Camp will open later this year through marriott.com and the Marriott Bonvoy app, allowing loyalty members to earn and redeem points on their stays. As part of the Autograph Collection’s emphasis on distinctive, locally inspired properties, Mapito joins a global portfolio of unique hotels and resorts that range from urban landmarks to remote lodges.
With the Serengeti’s unparalleled wildlife spectacle and Marriott’s luxury hospitality expertise, Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti promises to redefine safari travel. By combining bespoke accommodations, genuine conservation partnerships and Autograph Collection’s signature flair, the camp aims to create unforgettable journeys where every guest becomes part of the Serengeti story.
