Mexican Low-Cost Airline Volaris Partners with Pratt & Whitney to Boost Fleet with 64 Airbus A321neo Aircraft
At the highly anticipated 54th edition of the Paris Air Show, Volaris, the renowned Mexican low-cost carrier, announced its exciting collaboration with Pratt & Whitney. This strategic partnership will see Volaris equipping an additional 64 Airbus A321neo aircraft with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines.
With this latest move, Volaris has now committed to a total of 217 GTF-powered purchased and leased aircraft, including their previous selection of GTF engines for 153 A320neo family aircraft. This massive expansion, fueled by the cutting-edge GTF engines, is expected to be a major driver of Volaris’ growth while also emphasizing their commitment to minimizing their environmental impact.
Enrique Beltranena, the CEO of Volaris, expressed his enthusiasm about the engine-and-aircraft combination, stating, “The additional GTF-powered A321neo aircraft will drive our growth while being mindful of our environmental footprint. This engine-and-aircraft combination means we’ll be able to fly even more passengers, farther – with some of the lowest costs, fuel consumption, and emissions per seat in the Americas.”
Volaris, headquartered in Mexico City, is renowned for its cost-effective operations, and this partnership with Pratt & Whitney further solidifies its position as a leader in the aviation industry. As an affiliate of Indigo Partners, the airline has a reputation for embracing innovation, and this deal is a testament to their forward-thinking approach.
Pratt & Whitney’s President of Commercial Engines, Rick Deurloo, emphasized the alignment of values between the two companies, stating, “As a leading low-cost carrier with a strong focus on sustainability, Volaris knows how important low fuel consumption and emissions are to their business model and environmental leadership.” Deurloo further emphasized that the GTF engine’s value has already been proven, making it the ideal choice for Volaris’ continued expansion in the coming years.
Having been the first airline in North America to fly the A320neo, Volaris is no stranger to innovation. With a current fleet of 70 GTF-powered A320neo family aircraft and 53 V2500-powered A320ceo family aircraft, the addition of 64 A321neo aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines will undoubtedly reinforce Volaris’ position as a frontrunner in the low-cost carrier market.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Volaris’ journey to enhance passenger experience, extend their reach, and elevate their eco-friendly initiatives, setting a new benchmark for the aviation industry.
