Mexicana de Aviación, Mexico’s newly state-operated airline, has revealed the first set of destinations that will be included in its network when it commences operations on December 10, 2023. The airline will initiate services to 20 domestic destinations from its primary hub, Felipe Ángeles International Airport, situated near Mexico City.

Among the announced destinations are well-known tourist hotspots like Cancún, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, and Cozumel, in addition to major cities including Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Tijuana. Mexicana de Aviación will also serve regional markets such as Campeche, Chetumal, Mérida, Villahermosa, Huatulco, Oaxaca, Acapulco, Mazatlán, La Paz, and León. Furthermore, the airline is scheduled to operate flights to Hermosillo and Ciudad Juárez in the northern region of the country.

The airline’s initial fleet will consist of 10 Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured with a single class and a capacity of 180 passengers. These aircraft will sport a livery inspired by the vibrant colors of the Mexican flag, featuring green, white, and red. Mexicana de Aviación intends to lease these planes from Boeing, which has been actively supporting the airline’s development and certification process.

Mexicana de Aviación, endorsed by the Mexican government, has acquired the name and brand of the former Mexicana de Aviación, which faced bankruptcy in 2010. The government’s objective is to establish an affordable and competitive alternative for Mexican travelers while fostering the country’s economic and social progress. The airline has committed to offering fares that are approximately 20% cheaper than those of commercial carriers, without relying on subsidies.

Ticket sales are anticipated to commence in September, with plans for expanding the network to international destinations in the future. CEO Murari Lal Jalan expressed confidence in the strong demand for the airline’s services and a commitment to reviving the legacy and reputation of Mexicana de Aviación.
