MSC Cruises Alters 2024 Itineraries, Opts for West Mediterranean Sailings

MSC Cruises has announced a significant change in its summer 2024 sailings due to the ongoing conflict in Israel. The cruise line is redirecting MSC Musica to the West Mediterranean, replacing the ship’s originally planned itinerary that included stops in Haifa, Israel.

New Itinerary for MSC Musica

From May to October 2024, MSC Musica will embark on seven-night roundtrip cruises departing from Civitavecchia, Italy. The revised route includes stops in several iconic Mediterranean destinations:

  • Genoa, Italy
  • Cannes, France
  • Barcelona and Ibiza, Spain
  • Cagliari, Italy

This shift in itinerary provides travelers with an opportunity to explore the rich culture and picturesque landscapes of the West Mediterranean.

Broader Industry Adjustments

The decision to change MSC Musica’s route is part of a larger industry trend in response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Previously, MSC Cruises canceled all Red Sea voyages on MSC Orchestra from November to April. Additionally, MSC Sinfonia’s winter season was also canceled as it was scheduled to visit Haifa, Israel.

The cruise line emphasized that the safety of guests and crew remains its top priority. They stated, “As this is an evolving situation, the line will continue to monitor the situation and modify ship itineraries if necessary.”

Windstar Cruises has similarly adjusted its plans, canceling its inaugural season in the Middle East that was set to begin in November. Instead, they plan to launch in the region in 2024.

Expanding Greek Island Destinations

In a separate development unrelated to the Middle East conflict, MSC Cruises has also enhanced MSC Opera’s itineraries. From May through October, MSC Opera will offer seven-night voyages featuring new Greek Island destinations. These cruises will depart from and return to Bari, Italy, with stops at various Greek locations including Piraeus, Santorini, Katakolon, Corfu, and Kefalonia.

In summary, MSC Cruises’ adjustments to its 2024 itineraries reflect a response to the ongoing geopolitical situation in Israel. While redirecting MSC Musica to the West Mediterranean, the cruise line also continues to expand its offerings in other regions, such as the Greek Islands, ensuring a diverse range of travel options for its guests.
