MSC Group’s Cruise Division, which includes MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting measurable progress toward its goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. The report is supported by an independently verified Energy Transition Plan (ETP), providing a clear roadmap with interim emissions reduction targets.

“As a family business, we do not operate ships just for tomorrow. We sail them for future generations, designed for fuel flexibility, guided by innovation, and powered by people who share our long-term vision,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group’s Cruise Division.

Key highlights of the report include a reduction of 50,000 tons of CO₂ emissions through fleet-wide optimization tools such as OptiCruise and Oceanly Performance, which enhance itinerary planning and real-time operational efficiency. Shore power connectivity also expanded significantly, rising from 44 connections in 2023 to 142 in 2024 across 13 ports. All ships launched since 2017 are shore-power ready, with retrofitting underway for older vessels.

The division reported a rise in crew retention, reaching 89 percent compared to 83 percent in 2023. A new Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee was also created to support workforce equity across more than 140 nationalities.

MSC continues its investment in Ocean Cay, where coral restoration and marine wildlife protection are ongoing. Additional initiatives include whale strike prevention training for 469 crew members and the expansion of low-impact “Protectours” shore excursions.

In 2024, MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys carried 4.6 million guests across 341 itineraries in 90 countries, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable growth.
