MSC World America Joins MSC Cruise’s Expanding Fleet
MSC Cruises has officially taken delivery of its newest vessel, MSC World America, marking a significant milestone in the company’s fleet expansion. The ship, built at the renowned Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, is set to carry up to 6,762 guests in luxurious comfort and innovative style. After its delivery, MSC World America will embark on a transatlantic voyage to join its sister ships at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, where its naming ceremony is scheduled for April 9. This event not only celebrates the addition of a state-of-the-art cruise ship to the MSC fleet but also highlights the company’s continued commitment to enhancing guest experiences and sustainable practices.
In France, leaders at MSC Cruises held a series of significant ceremonies that underscored the ambitious expansion plans of the company. Alongside the delivery of MSC World America, the coin ceremony for MSC World Asia was conducted, and the steel cutting for MSC World Atlantic was celebrated. These three new vessels are part of MSC Cruises’ World Class series, which are designed to deliver unparalleled onboard experiences and to set new standards in environmental performance. MSC World Asia is on track to begin sailing in the Mediterranean Sea during the winter season of 2026-27, while MSC World Atlantic is scheduled to debut in 2027 and will be based at Port Canaveral, cruising to the Caribbean during the 2027-28 winter season.
At the delivery of MSC World America, Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of the MSC Group Cruise Division, expressed his pride in this major achievement for both MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique. He emphasized that these milestones are a testament to the collaborative spirit and innovative drive of the teams involved, which have worked tirelessly to bring these vessels to life. The new ship is designed to set a new benchmark for energy efficiency and sustainability in the cruise industry, incorporating several advanced features to minimize its environmental impact. Among these features, MSC World America is equipped with engines that can operate on liquified natural gas, reducing harmful emissions, as well as shore power connectivity to further lower its carbon footprint when docked.
In addition to its fuel-efficient engines, the vessel boasts an advanced wastewater treatment system and an onboard recycling management plant, reflecting MSC Cruises’ commitment to environmental stewardship. Laurent Castaing, general manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, highlighted that MSC World America currently holds the best energy efficiency design index as recognized by the International Maritime Organization. This accolade underlines the vessel’s status as the most environmentally friendly cruise ship in the industry, a title that MSC Cruises plans to extend to its sister ships as they join the fleet.
