NBAA, FlightSafety and CAE Release Unified Aircraft SOPs to Boost Safety

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), FlightSafety International and CAE have jointly unveiled a comprehensive set of industrywide aircraft standard operating procedures (SOPs), marking a major step forward in strengthening safety, consistency and professionalism across business aviation.

The new Airplane Standard Operating Procedures Manual is the product of years of collaboration among operators, manufacturers and training experts. It establishes a unified framework designed to ensure that both multi-pilot and single-pilot operations follow the same proven practices, regardless of fleet size or mission profile.

Industry leaders say widespread adoption of the SOPs will enhance safety by reducing variability in cockpit procedures and improving operational predictability. Standardization will also benefit multi-fleet operators and organizations with dynamic crew assignments by creating a common operational language across teams.

The unified SOPs will generate stronger, more comparable data, enabling targeted improvements in pilot training. FlightSafety and CAE plan to integrate the new SOPs into training sessions beginning in summer 2026, giving operators time to review and prepare for the updated procedures.

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen said the release represents a milestone for the industry, ensuring pilots and operators can rely on consistent, validated best practices. CAE and FlightSafety executives echoed this view, noting that embedding the SOPs into training directly supports safer operations and reflects years of industrywide collaboration.

NBAA will continue refining the SOP manual with ongoing feedback from operators. Business aviation professionals can explore the new procedures by watching the recording of NBAA’s National Safety Forum, held October 15 during NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas.
