New Airline Routes in Brief: Hong Kong Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Emirates
Hong Kong Airlines will introduce a new route from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Sendai, Japan, starting Dec. 18, 2024. This will be the carrier’s ninth destination in Japan. The flight will operate three times a week, taking approximately four hours. Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture, is considered a key gateway to the scenic northeast region of Japan. In addition to this new route, Hong Kong Airlines will increase its HKG-Sapporo service to daily flights and operate five daily flights between HKG and Tokyo Narita during the winter season.
Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines announced plans for its 2025 summer schedule at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The airline will offer 1.1 million weekly seats and operate 968 daily flights, marking a 75-flight increase from 2024. Delta will connect passengers to 215 destinations from ATL.
In another update, Emirates has begun daily service between Dubai and Lagos, Nigeria, utilizing a Boeing 777-300ER. The aircraft is configured to carry 354 passengers and offers significant cargo capacity, allowing for 300 metric tons of weekly belly cargo. Key commodities include kola nuts, food items, and courier materials.
Finally, Gary/Chicago International Airport (GYY) in Indiana has broken ground on a $24 million cargo infrastructure project. This development aims to enhance the airport’s cargo operations and includes a Jet-A fuel pipeline and a deicing facility. The improvements are expected to increase GYY’s appeal as an alternative cargo hub to Chicago O’Hare.
