New day dawns for N.C. sanctuary for Black travelers

A North Carolina hotel once listed in the Jim Crow-era “Green Book” of safe lodging for African-Americans has reopened after a 50-year hiatus and a top-to-bottom restoration. Greensboro’s Historic Magnolia House played host to such Black notables as Ray Charles, Jackie Robinson, James Baldwin and Ike and Tina Turner.
