Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled a sneak preview of its upcoming airport lounge at Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), setting the stage for a uniquely immersive travel experience. Scheduled to open at the end of 2027, the new lounge is a key element of the Alaska Air Group’s three-year strategic plan following its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines.

The initial design concepts for the lounge draw strong inspiration from Hawaii’s natural splendor. The space is being crafted to reflect the warmth and beauty of the island, incorporating sculptural elements, bold pops of color, and reflective beams of light that mimic the natural play of sunlight over Hawaii’s landscapes. The design team has placed great emphasis on delivering a visual and sensory journey that mirrors the island’s rich heritage and scenic environment.

Strategically located at the entrance of the Mauka Concourse in Terminal 1, the new lounge is set to be a centerpiece at HNL. With a footprint that is five times larger than Hawaiian Airlines’ existing lounge in Honolulu, the facility will cater to a considerably higher volume of both Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines guests. This expanded capacity will enable the airline group to offer a more comfortable and exclusive pre-flight experience that goes beyond traditional airport amenities.

According to Todd Traynor-Corey, Vice President of Guest Products & Experience at Alaska Airlines, the upcoming lounge represents a reimagination of the travel journey. “We are reimagining the travel experience with spaces that showcase our dedication to guest satisfaction and the unique culture of Hawai‘i,” he said in a statement. Traynor-Corey highlighted that the lounge will create a modern oasis where guests can relax in a setting that pays homage to the natural and cultural beauty of the island. He added, “Our new Honolulu lounge will be the first-of-its-kind within this space and will offer a modern oasis for our guests to enjoy.”

Alisa Onishi, Director of Brand and Culture at Hawaiian Airlines, emphasized that the lounge has been thoughtfully designed as a celebration of the guest’s voyage. “Our new Honolulu lounge will be a celebration of our guest’s voyage, thoughtfully crafted to honor the beauty and warmth of our island home,” Onishi said. She further commented that the space reinforces Hawaiian Airlines’ commitment to delivering an unrivaled travel experience that is deeply rooted in the airline’s identity as a hometown carrier. This alignment of guest experience with the cultural and natural essence of Hawaii is expected to heighten traveler satisfaction and set a new standard in airport hospitality.

While the current preview offers an exciting glimpse into the lounge’s ambiance and design direction, further details such as the final design and specific guest access policies will be shared closer to the launch date. The collaborative effort between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines aims to ensure that the lounge not only provides a luxurious retreat in the midst of the bustling airport but also encapsulates the spirit of Aloha.

As the project progresses, the new HNL lounge is anticipated to become an iconic hub at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, reflecting a seamless blend of modern design and authentic Hawaiian culture. With its expansive space, innovative features, and emphasis on guest well-being, the lounge is poised to set a benchmark for airport experiences that celebrate local heritage while delivering world-class comfort and service.
