Privately-owned Italian airline Aeroitalia is expanding its fleet, leasing three Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from Air Lease Corporation.

The new aircraft from ALC’s order book will be delivered to Aeroitalia in 2023 and 2024, ALC said in a statement on November 1, 2022.

Aeroitalia currently has a fleet of three Boeing 737-800 aircraft on operating lease, plus an ATR 72 on wet leases, according to fleet data from Cirium.

The airline, whose backers include South American aviation entrepreneur German Efromovich, started operations in 2022. It flies charter and regional routes, and its first base is Forli airport (FRL) in northern Italy.

“With this placement, Aeroitalia’s team of seasoned airline industry veterans are prudently growing their fleet and operations to meet the needs of the airline’s steadily growing business,” said AJ Abedin, Vice President of Marketing at ALC, in the statement.

Aeroitalia noted the deal strengthens the airline’s relationship with the lessor, from whom it already leases one 737.

“We consider this deal a very important step for Aeroitalia in its plan for sustainable green growth and to support the Italian market,” added Gaetano Intrieri, Chief Executive Officer of Aeroitalia.
