Latin America’s hospitality scene is booming with fresh accommodation options, ranging from internationally branded properties to unique boutique hotels. Recent statistics from Lodging Econometrics confirm that the fourth quarter of 2024 saw a robust 15% jump in new hotel projects across Central and South America, highlighting a surge in development that caters to an increasingly diverse traveler base.

In Argentina, one of the standout openings is the Sheraton Buenos Aires Greenville Polo and Resort. Launched in 2024, this five-star property is conveniently located about 25 minutes from downtown Buenos Aires. Adjacent to world-class polo fields, the resort offers guests an immersive sports experience alongside luxurious amenities such as an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

Brazil continues to be a hotspot for new hotel developments. Hilton is making significant strides in the country with its growth mode strategy. The recently opened 135-room Yoo2 Rio de Janeiro, Tapestry Collection by Hilton marks a notable addition, while new properties such as the 137-room Tru by Hilton Chapeco in Santa Catarina, the 175-room Hampton by Hilton Caraguatatuba Serramar on São Paulo’s northern coast, and the 105-room DoubleTree by Hilton Canela in Rio Grande do Sul are scheduled to open this year. Future plans for 2026 and 2027 include new Hilton ventures like Casa Costa Ilhabela, Curio Collection by Hilton and Casa di Sirena Campos do Jordão, Curio Collection by Hilton, alongside Tru by Hilton São Paulo Congonhas Airport. Marriott International is also expanding in Brazil, with the W São Paulo opening in December 2024 in the Vila Olimpia neighborhood. This vibrant property features a restaurant, outdoor pool, and fitness center, with plans to launch a new spa in April 2025. Additionally, Soho House São Paulo, the company’s first hotel in South America, debuted in June 2024 on Avenida Paulista, offering a boutique experience complete with a gym, spa, rooftop pool, and exclusive club spaces.

In Chile, notable openings include the much-anticipated reopening of Tierra Atacama in April 2025 after extensive renovations in northern Chile’s Atacama Desert. The property, now offering 28 rooms including four suites with private Jacuzzis and dedicated services, promises a refined guest experience. Also, the Tru by Hilton Chillan Ferrat is set to open in mid-2025 in the southern city of Chillan.

Colombia’s Cartagena is emerging as a prime destination for upscale properties. Casa Carolina, a boutique hotel housed in a restored 16th-century building, opened in December 2024 and features 15 guest rooms, a rooftop terrace, a café, and a wellness area for yoga. In addition, the 131-room Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Cartagena is scheduled to debut in mid-2025, offering eight restaurants, two rooftop pools, and a spa.

Costa Rica is also on the luxury map with the upcoming launch of Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, in Peninsula Papagayo this March 2025. This 107-room property offers unique treetop tents, a spa, and direct access to the Palmares Preserve. Soon after, on May 1, the Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique will open, featuring six restaurants, a spa, and a multilevel swimming pool.

Panama sees luxury boutique innovation with Hotel La Compañía del Valle by Hyatt’s Unbound Collection debuting in El Valle de Antón. Meanwhile, Paraguay welcomes the Palmaroga Hotel Asuncion, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, which opened in December 2024. In Peru, the Souma Hotel Lima by IHG’s Vignette Collection is set for a March 2025 opening in the upscale Miraflores district. Finally, Uruguay introduces the 131-room Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, featuring extensive leisure amenities including tennis courts, a private beach, and an 18-hole golf course.

These new hotel developments across Latin America signal an exciting era for travelers seeking both luxury and unique local experiences in the region.
