New Premium Airline Set to Launch in Indonesia

Plans are underway to launch a new premium airline in Indonesia aimed at capturing the growing demand for international air travel. With the country’s overall international capacity projected to rise by more than 6% during the upcoming summer 2025 season, industry insiders see a significant opportunity for a carrier that can offer high-quality, exclusive service on long-haul routes.

Singapore-based investor Calypte Holding, a company with diverse interests in renewable energy, agriculture, and aviation, has established a subsidiary called PT Indonesia Airlines Group. This new entity will be based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and will operate under the brand name Indonesia Airlines. The carrier is designed to serve as a premium airline that will focus exclusively on international routes, offering enhanced service and luxurious amenities for discerning travelers.

The planned carrier aims to serve 48 destinations across 30 countries within its first five years of operation. With such an ambitious network, Indonesia Airlines intends to set a new standard for premium international travel from the region. Business planning and feasibility studies are currently underway as the company prepares for a gradual rollout. As part of its expansion strategy, the airline plans to acquire a fleet of 20 aircraft over time. The proposed fleet mix includes 10 narrowbody aircraft, with options between the Airbus A321neo and the A321LR, as well as 10 widebody jets that will likely be either Airbus A350-900s or Boeing 787-9s.

The decision to launch a new international carrier comes at a time when Indonesia’s air travel recovery has been among the strongest in Southeast Asia. Data from OAG Schedules Analyser indicates that the number of departure seats during the northern summer 2025 season is expected to reach almost 14.8 million. This represents a 10.7% year-on-year increase and a 6.3% rise compared to the summer of 2019. Such robust growth underscores the resurgence in international travel demand and highlights the potential for a premium carrier to capture a significant share of the market.

While neighboring countries show mixed recovery figures, Indonesia’s performance is notable. For instance, Vietnam’s international capacity has rebounded to 13% above pre-pandemic levels, while Singapore and Malaysia have experienced only modest increases of about 2.2% compared to summer 2019. In contrast, the Philippines remains 5.8% below pre-pandemic capacity, and Thailand lags by 11.7%. This comparative outlook strengthens the case for Indonesia Airlines, as it is well positioned to serve a market that is not only recovering but also expanding rapidly.

Industry analysts believe that the launch of Indonesia Airlines will enhance the overall connectivity of the region, providing more options for international travelers and potentially boosting tourism and economic growth in Indonesia. The focus on premium service, exclusive international routes, and a modern, efficient fleet highlights Calypte Holding’s commitment to transforming the airline landscape in Indonesia.
