New York Bans Single-Use Plastic Personal Care Products in Hotels

New York State is set to implement a significant environmental initiative starting January 1, 2025, banning small single-use bottles of personal care products like conditioner, shampoo, moisturizer, and body wash in hotels with more than 50 rooms. Smaller hotels have until 2026 to comply. The regulation aims to reduce plastic waste, with fines starting at $250 for initial violations and increasing for subsequent offenses in the same year. Originally delayed by the pandemic, the ban is expected to eliminate millions of plastic bottles annually from New York City hotels alone, aligning with broader state efforts to reduce single-use plastics. This move follows similar actions in California, highlighting a growing trend toward sustainability in the hospitality industry.
