Nigeria to Enforce ‘Zero Debt’ Policy for Airlines in 2026

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced it will implement a new “Zero Debt Strategy” beginning January 2026, requiring domestic airlines to provide mandatory advance payment guarantees to operate.
The initiative is designed to curb the growing issue of unpaid debts owed by airlines to the regulator and other aviation service providers. NCAA Director-General Chris Najomo said the measure will ensure greater financial discipline, transparency, and sustainability within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Najomo emphasized that the new policy will address long-standing non-compliance among carriers and protect the stability of the aviation industry. Under the plan, airlines must settle regulatory charges in advance and maintain proof of payment to continue operating.
