Nigerian start-up 3 Horizons has secured its air operator’s certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), granting it approval to launch passenger and cargo charter operations. The specific aircraft used during the certification process has not yet been disclosed.

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Kaduna, 3 Horizons is chaired by Nigerian businessman Suleiman Sani Bello. Bello also chairs Dornier Aviation Nigeria (DANA), an established charter and maintenance operator based at Kaduna Old Airport, according to DANA’s official website.

DANA currently holds its own Nigerian AOC and runs charter services for clients in the oil and gas sector as well as humanitarian missions for the United Nations World Food Programme. Its fleet includes a Do228-100, three Do328-100s, a De Havilland Dash 8-Q400, and a Beechcraft 1900D, all turboprops. The company is also active in aircraft maintenance, making it a key player in Nigeria’s specialist aviation sector.

While it remains unclear if 3 Horizons used any of DANA’s aircraft for its certification process, the new operator’s link to an experienced aviation group suggests a strong foundation for its launch.

The granting of the AOC comes at a time of growth in Nigeria’s aviation sector, as more operators seek to enter niche markets such as charter and cargo operations. With its certification in place, 3 Horizons is now positioned to compete in these areas, leveraging both domestic demand and opportunities from Nigeria’s expanding oil, gas, and logistics industries.
