Nigeria’s Ibom Air to add A220s for int’l growth
Ibom Air (QI, Uyo) will shortly add its first A220-300s ahead of plans to expand into the regional West African market, Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has revealed. “We are actually planning a regional flight with Ibom Air, so we hope by next month we should take delivery of two brand new A220-300 series Airbuses, we want to use that for regional flights. I will get this to be discussed at the directors meeting of Ibom Air so that we can also consider Banjul,” he said in a statement following his meeting with the Gambian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohamadou Musa Njie. Backed by the oil-rich state of Akwa Ibom located along Nigeria’s Atlantic coast, Ibom Air operates a fleet of five CRJ900LRs (of which three are leased from Avmax Aircraft Leasing and two from Falko Regional Aircraft). Though based in Uyo, it offers regular flights between Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, and Calabar.
