Norse Expands Bangkok Service from London LGW

Norse Atlantic Airways is set to broaden its network in Asia by launching a new direct, non-stop service from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) starting October 26, 2025. This new route, operated up to four times weekly using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, marks a significant expansion of Norse’s operations in the UK market, reinforcing the carrier’s commitment to offering more travel options at competitive fares.

London Gatwick, currently Norse’s only UK base, has become a pivotal hub in the airline’s network, linking European cities to destinations in North America, Asia, and South Africa. With the addition of the new Bangkok service, Norse further strengthens its foothold in the lucrative Asian market. “We’re excited to launch direct flights between London Gatwick and Bangkok, a top choice among our travelers,” said Bjørn Tore Larsen, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Norse Atlantic Airways. “This addition not only strengthens our existing network between Asia but also builds on our routes from London Gatwick to destinations across the Atlantic and South Africa.”

In a bid to boost its operations in Asia further, Norse is ramping up services to Bangkok from its other European bases. Starting in December 2025, weekly flights from Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) to Bangkok will double from two to four, while flights between Oslo (OSL) and Bangkok will increase from three to four times per week beginning December 3, 2025. These enhancements are aimed at meeting growing demand and capturing more of the burgeoning market for long-haul, low-cost travel to Southeast Asia.

Historically, Norse has focused primarily on transatlantic routes from London and Oslo, with a recent strategic shift to include flights to the United States from other major European cities such as Rome, Berlin, and Athens. The airline is already operating a route between London Gatwick and Cape Town for the current 2024-25 winter season. However, the forthcoming expansion into Bangkok signals a potential shift in its network strategy, as a substantial portion of its fleet could be dedicated to servicing Asian markets.

Adding another layer to its strategic realignment, Norse reached an agreement in December 2024 to wet-lease up to six of its current fleet of eight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to a reputable international airline. Although the carrier has not confirmed the identity of this partner, industry reports widely indicate that India’s IndiGo is likely to be the operator. The lease arrangement is expected to cover the bulk of 2025 and could prompt a rebalancing of Norse’s route network, potentially leading to cutbacks on some US routes as more capacity is directed towards high-demand markets in Asia. With up to three-quarters of its fleet leased out by the end of 2025, Bangkok is set to become a cornerstone of Norse’s long-haul operations for the winter 2025-26 period.

Norse Atlantic Airways’ expansion into the Bangkok market is a strategic response to the growing demand for affordable long-haul travel between Europe and Asia. By leveraging the extended range of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and optimizing its network through increased flight frequencies from key European hubs, Norse is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the competitive Asian travel market. As the airline refines its route strategy amid shifting fleet allocations, passengers can expect enhanced connectivity and more travel options to one of Southeast Asia’s most popular destinations.
