Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is set to expand its presence in Texas, marking a significant development in the cruise industry. The company has entered into a 10-year agreement with Galveston Wharves, which includes the operation of a newly constructed $100 million terminal slated to open in November 2025. This state-of-the-art facility will become the fourth terminal at the Port of Galveston, significantly enhancing the port’s capacity and its status as a key maritime hub.

The initial phase of Norwegian’s expansion will feature three years of seasonal operations, after which the cruise line will establish a full-time homeport at the port. This strategic move is expected to boost Norwegian’s offerings in the region with the deployment of two of its newest ships, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. These ships are scheduled to offer a variety of Western Caribbean itineraries, appealing to a broad audience of travelers seeking unique vacation experiences.

Juan Kuryla, Senior Vice President of Port Development & Construction at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, highlighted the strategic importance of this expansion. “This development allows us to continue serving our guests in the region and surrounding areas, further strengthening our presence in this important market,” said Kuryla. He emphasized the advantage of Galveston’s strategic location and its role as a key turnaround port, which is expected to bring a plethora of opportunities not only for Norwegian but also for its sister brands, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

The partnership between Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and Galveston Wharves is projected to have a profound impact on the local economy. It aims to create jobs, boost tourism, and drive economic growth, thereby providing significant benefits to the local community.

With this expansion, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings reinforces its commitment to enhancing its fleet’s accessibility and increasing its market share in the global cruise industry. The new terminal in Galveston is a testament to the company’s efforts to innovate and improve its infrastructure, promising enhanced service offerings and a superior cruising experience for its passengers.
