John Chernesky, senior vice president of sales for North America at Norwegian Cruise Line, continues to champion travel advisors throughout his 30-year career. After joining Norwegian in 2023, Chernesky remains focused on supporting advisors with tools, training, and programs to help them succeed.

In an interview with TravelPulse, Chernesky reflected on his two years with Norwegian, highlighting key moments such as participating in the christening of Norwegian Aqua and enjoying a family cruise aboard Norwegian Prima. He emphasized Norwegian’s commitment to making the brand the easiest cruise line for travel advisors to work with, citing improvements in policies, booking tools, air programs, and advisor support.

Chernesky advises travel advisors to leverage personal networks and client referrals to attract new-to-cruise customers, emphasizing the “power of polite persistence” when building business. He also encourages advisors to remind clients of the strong value proposition cruising offers, particularly during uncertain times.

Key trends Chernesky monitors include strong demand for Caribbean, Europe, and Alaska itineraries, the growing appeal of drive-to ports, and increased interest in private island experiences. Norwegian’s Great Stirrup Cay continues to undergo major enhancements, with new facilities and a pier to improve guest experiences.

Looking ahead, Chernesky noted Norwegian’s continued investment in both new ships like Norwegian Aqua and Luna, and extensive refurbishments of its existing fleet. He also highlighted the company’s expanded military appreciation program, offering up to 35 percent off select Alaska and Europe sailings for eligible service members.
