Nuremberg Airport Expands with New Route Opportunities

Nuremberg Airport (NUE), located in Germany’s Bavaria state, is projected to serve 4.0 million passengers in 2024. The airport serves a catchment area of 5 million people, offering a strong mix of business and leisure travel. In 2024, Eurowings opened a base at NUE, adding routes to Rome, Hamburg, Nice, and Bastia. British Airways began seasonal service from London Heathrow, targeting visitors for the famous Christmas market.

In summer 2025, NUE’s network expands further with new routes. Wizz Air will launch a service to Varna, Bulgaria, and Marabu Airlines will increase its presence with new routes to Kavala, Greece; Olbia, Italy; and Funchal, Portugal. The airport’s growth is supported by its strategy, the “Blue Ocean Airport Nürnberg,” focusing on high-demand unserved routes, which earned NUE the Under 5 Million Passenger category award at the 2024 Routes Europe Awards.

With multiple incentives and zero slot restrictions, NUE has added several unserved and underserved routes to its Routes 360 profile, including Dublin, Madrid, Lisbon, Dubai, and Vienna among others. These opportunities are designed to support network planners in identifying new business opportunities.
