Nuremberg Airport (NUE) Outperforms in Recovery Efforts

2023 is halfway through and it was time to review. The German Airports Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Verkehrsflughäfen e.V.) regularly publishes traffic figures about the German market and the results have been exciting for NUE: Nuremberg Airport’s recovery is once again soaring. NUE performed better than any of Germany’s top 10 airports: passenger volume increased by 57% in the period of January to May compared to the previous year. The German average at the same time was 34%.

NUE is outperforming the German average in 2023 when compared to 2019 as well. The airport has recovered by about 120% in the two weeks of Whitsun vacation, for example. Overall, from January until mid-June 2023, NUE only lost traffic by 7% when comparing to 2019, while the German average here is at -26%.

Airline’s increasing involvement at the airport and expansion on European routes, which are currently growth drivers, have made this development possible. However, there is still room for growth and a number of unserved routes that could still be filled.
