Oceania Cruises Begins Construction on New Ship Sonata

Oceania Cruises has officially begun construction on its newest vessel, Oceania Sonata, marking the launch of its all-new Sonata class. The ceremonial steel-cutting took place at the Fincantieri-Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy, signaling the start of the ship’s build ahead of its debut in summer 2027.
Oceania Sonata will become the ninth ship in the Oceania Cruises fleet and will be followed by a sister ship, Oceania Arietta. Both vessels will represent a new era of design and innovation for the line, which has long been known for its refined onboard experience.
Fincantieri, a longtime partner of Oceania Cruises, also built the line’s Marina, Riviera, Vista, and the upcoming Allura, which is scheduled to launch in July.
“Oceania Sonata heralds the dawn of a new era in luxury cruising,” said Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises. “We are proud to continue our legacy of innovation alongside Fincantieri, our shipbuilding partner for close to 20 years. Together, we have crafted ships that stand as some of the most acclaimed examples of luxury, elegance, comfort, and Italian craftsmanship at sea.”
With the new Sonata class, Oceania Cruises is expected to elevate its offerings further, building on its reputation for exceptional cuisine, personalized service, and destination-rich itineraries. More details about Oceania Sonata and its features are expected to be revealed as the ship approaches its inaugural season.
