Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company OneWeb announced today that it has entered into an agreement with SpaceX that will enable it to resume its programme of satellite launches.

OneWeb’s total in-orbit constellation currently stands at 428 satellites, or 66% of the fleet. The first launch with SpaceX is anticipated to take place in 2022.

OneWeb CEO, Neil Masterson, said: “We thank SpaceX for their support, which reflects our shared vision for the boundless potential of space. With these launch plans in place, we’re on track to finish building out our full fleet of satellites and deliver robust, fast, secure connectivity around the globe.”

According to OneWeb, demand for its broadband connectivity services has continued to grow across telecommunications providers, aviation and maritime markets and governments worldwide. The company’s network will deliver high-speed, low-latency global connectivity and OneWeb has now activated service with its network at the 50th parallel and above, with early partners now initiating service.

The terms of the agreement with SpaceX are confidential.
