Oneworld to Expand with New Members and Lounges in 2025
Oneworld, the global airline alliance, is gearing up for a significant expansion in 2025 with the addition of two new full airline members. The alliance, which marks its 25th anniversary in 2024, will welcome Oman Air in the second quarter of 2025 and Fiji Airways later in the year. The alliance also plans to open more branded airline lounges across its network, further enhancing its offerings to passengers.
Since its founding in 1999 by American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, Oneworld has grown to include major airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and Sri Lankan Airlines. The alliance continues to thrive, with more airlines expressing interest in joining in the future.
Oman Air to Join Oneworld in 2025
Oman Air, based in Muscat, is set to become the 14th full member of Oneworld on June 30, 2025. The airline is currently undergoing an expansion phase, having added two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet in 2024, with potential flights to Singapore also being considered. Oman Air has already partnered with Qantas, with codeshare links providing benefits to both airlines as they prepare for the Middle Eastern carrier’s full integration into Oneworld.
Fiji Airways to Become Full Member in Late 2025
Fiji Airways, which has been a Oneworld Connect member for five years, is set to transition to full membership by late 2025. The South Pacific carrier, based at Nadi International Airport, currently serves 26 destinations across 15 countries, including key Oneworld hubs in Sydney, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. With a fleet that includes Airbus A350-900s, A330s, and Boeing 737 MAX 8s, Fiji Airways’ transition to full membership will solidify its global presence.
As part of its integration into Oneworld, Fiji Airways will also introduce the AAdvantage loyalty program, managed by American Airlines, allowing passengers to earn and redeem points across the Oneworld network.
Looking Ahead: Potential New Members
In addition to Oman Air and Fiji Airways, several other airlines are expected to declare their intention to join Oneworld in 2025. Hawaiian Airlines, following its $1.9 billion buyout by Alaska Airlines, is widely expected to join the alliance after the merger. This will strengthen the position of both carriers, as they operate under two public-facing brands but share a single operation.
Starlux Airlines, which began operations in 2020, is another airline tipped to join Oneworld. To compete more effectively with other major East Asian carriers like Eva Air and China Airlines, Starlux is likely to seek the benefits of an airline alliance.
Lastly, if the International Airlines Group (IAG) successfully acquires TAP Air Portugal in 2025, the Lisbon-based airline may join Oneworld in 2026, subject to meeting the alliance’s strict criteria.
With these developments, Oneworld continues to strengthen its global position, offering expanded routes, lounges, and benefits to passengers. The addition of new members and alliances reflects the growing demand for international travel and the need for stronger cooperation between major global carriers.
