Orlando, Nashville, and Dallas Airports Embark on Terminal Expansion and Upgrades
Three major U.S. airports, Orlando International Airport (MCO), Nashville International Airport (BNA), and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), are embarking on significant terminal expansion and upgrade projects to accommodate the rising demand for air travel and enhance the passenger experience, particularly for international flights.
Orlando International Airport (MCO) recently inaugurated its Terminal C in September 2022. The airport plans to relocate some airlines to this new terminal, which currently serves JetBlue and international flights. Terminal C boasts 15 gates, facial recognition technology, a spacious canopy roof, and a plaza premium lounge. This expansion is vital for MCO to efficiently manage increasing passenger traffic and attract new routes and airlines.
Nashville International Airport (BNA) is currently undergoing a $1.4 billion renovation project known as BNA Vision. On September 27, the airport will open its new International Arrivals Facility (IAF) as part of the Terminal D expansion. The IAF will feature six gates and a streamlined customs area designed to enhance efficiency for international travelers. Additionally, it will offer local dining options, interactive gaming podiums, and delivery-to-seat services.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), one of the world’s busiest airports, has initiated an upgrade project for its Terminal D, primarily focusing on enhancing baggage check-in equipment in the south lobby. Consequently, some airline check-in counters near the D18 security checkpoint will undergo temporary relocation. The completion of this project is anticipated by spring 2024. DFW expects to serve 80 million passengers this year, marking a 10% increase from the previous year, primarily attributed to American Airlines’ growth.
These terminal expansion and upgrade initiatives underscore the commitment of these airports to meet the evolving needs of travelers while positioning themselves as hubs for both domestic and international flights.
