Pangea Acquires Overlap to Streamline Fragmented Travel Tech

Pangea, a platform for solo travelers and digital nomads, has acquired Overlap, a social app that helps travelers connect with friends during their trips. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2020, Pangea said the acquisition is an early step in its larger strategy to reduce fragmentation across travel technology.
“Fragmentation is a major root cause of why planning and organizing travel is so difficult,” Pangea founder and CEO Matt Gray wrote on LinkedIn. “We’re committed to building innovative tools in whitespace areas and consolidating the best founder-led apps into one cohesive platform, all underpinned by AI, so you don’t have to juggle 20 different tools.”
As of Monday, Overlap users can log in to Pangea, where their friends, trips and pins have already been “securely merged into the new combined platform,” Gray said.
Overlap founder Sharon Rosenberg will join Pangea as head of design, while co-founders Nick Zaverdinos and Jason Hu will remain involved in advisory roles.
“Overlap was built on the belief that the best part of travel is the people you share it with. Joining Pangea means scaling that vision globally and giving our early adopters a stronger home,” Rosenberg said. “I’m excited to lead design at a company that shares our passion for connecting travelers and creating meaningful experiences.”
