Passenger Sues Qatar Airways Over Alleged Theft by Flight Attendant

A passenger has filed a lawsuit against Qatar Airways, accusing one of the airline’s flight attendants of stealing $600 during a flight from San Francisco to Kolkata. The lawsuit, filed in a California district court, claims the incident occurred on Qatar Airways flight QR 738 on February 26, 2025, while traveling in Business Class QSuite. The flight, which was operated on an Airbus A350-1000, was bound for Kolkata via Doha’s Hamad International Airport.
The passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, claims she boarded the flight with $4,100 in cash stored in her handbag. According to the lawsuit, the passenger fell asleep during the 15-hour flight, only to wake up and find her handbag missing. She immediately alerted the cabin crew and began searching for her belongings.
The passenger stated that she eventually located her handbag in one of the aircraft’s lavatories, where a Qatar Airways flight attendant was reportedly present. Upon checking the contents of her handbag, the passenger discovered that $600 in cash had gone missing. She immediately reported the theft to the cabin crew, but the lawsuit alleges that no action was taken, and the suspected flight attendant continued to work throughout the flight.
The lawsuit further claims that the situation escalated after the passenger arrived in Kolkata, where she allegedly received threatening messages on social media from individuals who claimed to know or be related to the accused flight attendant. These messages reportedly added to the distress of the situation.
The legal complaint accuses Qatar Airways of mishandling the theft accusation, failing to protect the passenger’s privacy, and not compensating her for the stolen money. Additionally, the passenger alleges that the airline’s response to the theft was inadequate, leaving the situation unresolved and the passenger feeling vulnerable.
At the time of writing, Qatar Airways has yet to publicly respond to the lawsuit or address the allegations made by the passenger. The case highlights concerns about security and accountability in the airline industry, particularly regarding incidents involving flight attendants. The outcome of the lawsuit could have significant implications for Qatar Airways’ reputation and its handling of customer complaints.
This case adds to growing concerns about in-flight thefts and raises questions about how airlines address such incidents, the level of accountability provided to passengers, and how airlines can improve the safety of their services. Passengers are advised to take extra precautions when traveling with valuable items on board to avoid potential theft or loss during their flights.
