Pegasus Airlines Orders Up to 200 Boeing 737-10 Airplanes
Pegasus Airlines, Turkey’s leading low-cost carrier, is set to grow and modernize its single-aisle fleet with an order of up to 200 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes. This strategic purchase includes a firm order for 100 737-10 jets, with options for an additional 100.
As the largest model in the 737 MAX family, the 737-10 is capable of carrying up to 230 passengers and boasts a range of up to 5,740 km (3,100 nautical miles). Notably, it reduces fuel use and emissions by 20% compared to the airplanes it replaces. The airplane’s superior efficiency and flexibility will enable Pegasus Airlines to expand its service to more passengers across a broader array of routes, offering the lowest cost per seat of any single-aisle airplane.
“Boeing aircraft have been an integral part of our operations since Pegasus first entered the aviation industry in 1990,” said Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines. “We are excited to expand our fleet with the new Boeing 737-10 model. This investment aligns with our growth targets in Türkiye and globally, as we aim to launch new routes and expand our network.”
Özturk added, “Under our agreement with Boeing, we have committed to a total of 200 Boeing 737-10 aircraft. The first 100 aircraft are firm orders, and we will consider converting the remaining 100 options into firm orders based on future market conditions and our fleet needs.”
Pegasus Airlines launched operations with the Boeing 737 Classic nearly 35 years ago. The new 737-10 will complement the airline’s existing fleet of Next-Generation 737s by providing operational commonality and the flexibility required to meet a growing travel demand.
“We have proudly partnered with Pegasus Airlines since their inception and are thrilled to count them as the newest 737 MAX customer,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “We appreciate their continued trust in Boeing and look forward to fulfilling the promise of the 737-10 with its enhanced efficiency, versatility, and reliability.”
As low-cost carriers boost regional growth and connectivity, the 737-10 is poised to support Pegasus Airlines in expanding into new markets across Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. According to Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook, operators in Europe and Central Asia are expected to take delivery of nearly 7,900 single-aisle airplanes over the next 20 years.
“This order, considered within the context of Boeing’s National Aerospace Initiative with the Turkish government launched in 2017, is set to open new doors and create opportunities for production and exports for both Turkish manufacturers and the broader aviation industry,” Öztürk concluded.
With the purchase of these 100 737-10 jets, the total orders for the 737 MAX variant now exceed 1,200 jets.
