Perplexity Adds Hotel Booking via Selfbook and Tripadvisor

AI-powered search engine Perplexity has partnered with Selfbook and Tripadvisor to launch native hotel booking directly on its platform. The new feature allows users to search and book accommodations without leaving the Perplexity interface.

Announced by CEO and co-founder Aravind Srinivas, the update introduces new “answer modes” tailored for specific verticals like travel, shopping, jobs, and more. When users select the travel mode and search for hotel options using natural language, Perplexity displays relevant results using Selfbook’s booking infrastructure and Tripadvisor reviews. Users can then complete bookings directly on the platform.

The feature is now live on the web and will be available on mobile soon. Perplexity also teased future perks for Pro users, including discounted hotel rates.

Selfbook, a 2023 PhocusWire Hot 25 Travel Startup, powers the booking system behind the integration. CEO Khalid Meniri said the goal is to allow users to book instantly from the point of inspiration, eliminating multiple steps in the search process. He noted hotels were a natural starting point due to their complexity and importance in travel planning.

Tripadvisor’s partnership adds value through its AI-generated summaries, reviews, and experiences from Viator. The collaboration is part of a broader effort to offer travelers personalized, actionable recommendations directly within search results.

Perplexity’s expansion into structured search and commercial transactions marks a step toward competing with traditional search engines. The move follows broader AI industry trends, including OpenAI’s Operator and Amazon’s Alexa+ entering the travel booking space in 2025.
