Philadelphia International Airport recently launched the “PHL Wingmate Guest Pass
Philadelphia International Airport recently launched the “PHL Wingmate Guest Pass,” allowing non-travelers without a boarding pass to access terminals past security. Starting November 1, 2023, this program is designed to facilitate friends and family wishing to escort passengers to or from their gates, enhancing the airport experience.
Interested individuals can apply online one to seven days before their visit, and upon approval, receive a digital Wingmate Pass. This pass allows access through security, although expedited programs like TSA PreCheck are not available with it. Philadelphia joins other airports that have implemented similar programs.
Several U.S. airports have already introduced programs to allow non-travelers access to secure areas of the airport. These include:
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport: This airport has been allowing non-travelers to access the gates since 2018. Applicants must apply online in advance.
- Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport: A similar program has been running since 2019, also requiring an online application.
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport: This airport allows up to 75 non-travelers per day to access the gate area. Interested parties need to fill out an online form the day before the flight.
- John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California: Visitors can check in at the information booth with a valid government-issued ID to get approved.
- Ontario International Airport in Southern California: Visitors apply online for access.
- Orlando International Airport (Terminal C): This airport also offers a visitor pass program.
These programs across various U.S. airports indicate a growing trend towards enhancing airport experiences for non-travelers, whether for bidding farewell, welcoming, or simply enjoying airport amenities.
